Voice of Big Brother – Meet the man behind TV’s most recognisable voice

The long-awaited return of Big Brother is finally here and so has its iconic soundtrack – the voice of Marcus Bentley, who has voiced every series of Big Brother and has therefore become an integral part of the experience.

Big Brother 2023, also known as Big Brother 20, is the upcoming twentieth series of Big Brother. It will be the first series to air on ITV2 after ITV gained the rights to the series in August 2022, almost four years since it last aired on Channel 5.

The series is set to begin on 8 October 2023, with a launch show airing simultaneously on both ITV1 and ITV2, with the remainder of the series broadcasting solely on the latter channel. It will be co-presented by AJ Odudu and Will Best, who will also front the companion show Big Brother: Late & Live.

Who is Marcus Bentley, the voice of Big Brother UK

Meet Marcus Bentley

Marcus was born in Gateshead on October 4 1967, and his north-eastern accent has become part of the show’s furniture. He now has three children with his wife Jools, who he married in 1997.

Marcus narrated the first ever series of Big Brother in 2000, at which point the show was on Channel 4. Eleven series later, Marcus followed the programme to Channel 5, who got the rights to continue the show in 2011.

Before landing his job narrating the much-loved reality show, Marcus had built himself up as an actor and since his narrating role saw his notoriety rise, Marcus has voiced a number of other shows, adverts, and even a Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? game.

It was that channel which hosted the last full series of the show – number 19 – in 2018, but its beloved soundtrack has survived the five-year wait to be part of its return to our screens on ITV this year.

Marcus confirmed his return in June this year with a post on X – saying: ‘Just a little bit of news over on TikTok… @bbuk fans are the best and most loyal possible. ‘Thanks for all the support and I can’t wait for the shenanigans to begin x.’
